Government Shutdown Information

The Southeast Alaska Food Bank is closely monitoring government shutdown news and assessing impacts to families throughout our region. If you’d like more information about Federal and State developments, we recommend our friends at the Food Bank of Alaska’s blog.  We are planning for increased demand and working to strengthen our partners to respond to the situation. We recognize that SNAP is a vital resource for feeding Alaskan families. For every meal that a food bank provides, SNAP provides nine. Approximately 2,500 people in Juneau (roughly 7% of the population) rely on SNAP. The Southeast Alaska Food Bank and our partners will continue to provide food services throughout and beyond this difficult time.

If you need assistance, you can:

  • Visit our weekly public pantry, Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Refer to our resources page to find more information about services in your area
  • Visit one of our community partners providing hot meals — contact Resurrection Lutheran Church, Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, Aldersgate United Methodist Church, the Glory Hall, or St. Vincent de Paul for more information

If you want to help, you can:

  • Call your elected officials and tell them what impact the shutdown, SNAP cuts, and layoffs are having on your community
  • Volunteer your time at SEAFB or one of our member agencies — call 789-6184 or email sfpc@seafb.onmicrosoft.com to inquire about volunteer opportunities
  • Donate to SEAFB or one of our member agencies — monetary donations to SEAFB can be made here & we accept food donations Monday-Thursday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Non-perishable food items can be donated in our drop box at 10020 Crazy Horse Drive.

Thank you for your support and patience as we adapt to this dynamic situation!
