A supplemental food program to help low-income families

What is TEFAP? 

The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) helps supplement the diets of low-income families by providing them with emergency food assistance at no cost. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) provides 100% American-grown foods to Food Bank of Alaska and their partners to distribute to people with incomes below a set level.

Foods will vary from month to month based on what is available and distributed by the USDA. 

  • Beans, dry
  • Canned fruits and vegetables 
  • Canned meat
  • Cereal
  • Dried fruits
  • Frozen fruits
  • Frozen meats 
  • Juice 
  • Milk, dry
  • Nuts
  • Pasta
  • Rice 

How can individuals qualify for TEFAP? 

Have an income at or below the guidelines (see chart) AND / OR Already receiving benefits from the following: 

  • Food Stamps (SNAP)
  • Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI) 
  • Commodity Supplement Food Program (CSFP)
  • National School Lunch Program or Free/Reduced Lunch

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I apply for TEFAP?

You can learn more and apply for TEFAP at the Southeast Alaska Food Bank (100020
Crazy Horse Drive). You will need to give your name, household size, and household
income, but no identification is required. Your application will be reviewed and approved
promptly.

When and where can I pick up my TEFAP food?

Once approved, TEFAP participants can pick up food orders once per month. Boxes
will be available for pick up at the Southeast Alaska Food Bank (10020 Crazy Horse Dr)
every Thursday from 3:00 – 5:30 PM, except for holidays. You can choose which
Thursday in the month you pick up your box, but you will only be able to pick up food
once per calendar month.

What if I am busy at the designated pick-up time?

On your application, you can list the names of other people who can pick up the food for
you. If someone else comes, they must already be listed on our form and must indicate
the head of household name on the application at pick up. If you need other

To file a program discrimination complaint, a Complainant should complete a Form AD-3027, USDA Program Discrimination Complaint Form which can be obtained online at: https://www.usda.gov/sites/default/files/documents/ad-3027.pdf, from any USDA office, by calling (866) 632-9992, or by writing a letter addressed to USDA. The letter must contain the complainant’s name, address, telephone number, and a written description of the alleged discriminatory action in sufficient detail to inform the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights (ASCR) about the nature and date of an alleged civil rights violation. The completed AD-3027 form or letter must be submitted to USDA by:
